Rally Promotes Renewable Energy Issues

Knoxville, Tenn. – You won’t have to look far to find U.S. citizens calling for responsible energy policy during the Presidential Debate, Thursday, Oct. 7 at Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, in coordination with the Southern Energy Network, will host a press conference, rally and march to celebrate “Tennessee Votes for Clean and Just Energy.” As the only presidential debate without a pre-determined theme, citizens will urge presidential candidates to support strong energy solutions that solve climate change and economic issues throughout the U.S.

WHAT: “TN Votes for Clean and Just Energy” – A rally event to include speakers, discussion and collaborative energy bringing environmental discussion to the forefront of the presidential debate.

WHEN: Monday, October 6

  • Press Conference – 1 p.m. – SACE leaders will gather at Fannie May Dees Park. Against the backdrop of a solar array, model wind farm and an inflatable power plant, students, media and Tennessee residents are welcome to attend this informative event.

Tuesday, October 7

  • Teach-in – 1 p.m. – Legislative Plaza, Hearing Room 29 – Speakers and energy specialists will discuss the future of the green economy.
  • Rally and March – 5:30 p.m. – Students and environmentally concerned citizens will gather at Fannie May Dees Park for a rally. Sporting green hard hats, symbolizing the development of the green jobs movement, these environmental leaders will showcase the energy needed to move our country into a clean energy future.
