Stephen Smith to Testify before Senate!
Join us for a live webcast of Stephen Smith’s testimony before the US Senate Committee on Environment and Public WorksOversight Hearing on the Tennessee Valley Authority and Recent Major Coal Ash Spill"
Dear SACE Supporter, Only a few weeks ago, residents of Tennessee experienced one of the nation’s largest spills of coal ash at the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) Kingston coal-fired power plant. More than one billion gallons of ashy sludge washed over 300 acres, displacing families and damaging property. The Kingston plant spill has brought national attention to the real danger of the use of coal-fired power plants and will be the topic of Thursday’s US Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works hearing entitled “Oversight Hearing on the Tennessee Valley Authority and Recent Major Coal Ash Spill." Dr. Stephen Smith, Executive Director of Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, will be presenting before the US Senate Committee at this hearing. We invite you to join us January 8th at 10 am to view the live testimony coverage. Details of the hearing are outlined below.
This recent disaster is a poignant reminder that we must place a moratorium on new coal-fired power plants and rapidly transition our fossil fuel-based economy to a cleaner, more efficient, renewable-based infrastructure. Join us today to help put an end to the use of dirty coal. You can also send a message to your elected official to end the expansion of coal-fired power plants via our allies 1Sky (www.1sky.org).
