Congress is Coming Home

Act Now for Strong Climate Legislation

Make your voice heard April 4th – April 18th by asking your US Representatives to pass bold legislation THIS YEAR!

During a speech to Congress on February 24th, President Barack Obama asked them Speak Up!to “send me legislation that places a market-based cap on carbon pollution and drives the production of renewable energy in America.” Last week, a draft climate bill was introduced in the House Energy and Commerce Committee by Representatives Waxman and Markey – and now its time to ask Congress for bold action and leadership.

THIS WEEK, members of Congress will be home in YOUR DISTRICT for the spring district work period. Bold energy and climate legislation in 2009 depends on citizens like you sending a loud message this April.

While your members of Congress are home, carry the President’s message for bold climate and energy legislation in 2009 by:

  • Visiting your Congressional Member’s district office – LEARN MORE HERE
  • Telephoning five friends and asking them to also visit their Congressional Member’s district office the week of April 6th or 13th during business hours
  • Writing a letter to the editor to your local paper addressing the need for citizen engagement for strong climate legislation in 2009

  • Reduce carbon emissions at least 25% below 1990 levels by 2020 and at least 80% by 2050
  • Hold polluters accountable for the global warming pollution they emit and end fossil fuel industry hand outs
  • Create a 21st century aware culture by educating, investing and building domestic job opportunities in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Members of Congress will only rise to the President’s challenge and pass a responsible climate bill if constituents back home hold them accountable.
