EPA- Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) Comments

parts/content-body.any.php

On January 5, 2010 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) held a public hearing on proposed new rules for Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) emissions given that research shows the current standard, established in 1971, fails to protect public health. Sulfur Dioxide is a harmful pollutant that can cause upper respiratory illnesses and contributes to acid rain. The single largest source of SO2 is coal-fired power plants while industrial boilers, ports, railyards, bus depots and heavy construction equipment all contribute to overall SO2 emissions. Southern Alliance for Clean Energy commented at this hearing urging the EPA to enact a new 1-hour standard that sets the limit for SO2 emissions at 50ppb. FinalSO2Comments1-5-10.pdf
