Your Voice is Needed:

Help Shape Energy Resource Plans for

North Carolina Utilities

Next Monday, March 15th, the public is invited to give comment before the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) as they hear concerns and ideas for Progress Energy and Duke Energy’s Integrated Resource Plans (IRP) to meet customer demand for electricity over the next 15 years. hearingPlease come to Raleigh on Monday and speak your concerns about energy efficiency and the utility companies’ plans to retire old coal plants. NC utilities ranked 26th in the nation on energy efficiency in 2009 – we can do better!

Each utility’s IRP must forecast customer demand, and must show how the utility plans to meet (and reduce) that demand. The IRP must result in the lowest cost mix of resources, which can include existing and new power plants, renewable energy facilities, and energy efficiency.

Both Duke Energy and Progress Energy have an opportunity to fundamentally improve the operations of their systems to become more environmentally responsible, with greater investments in energy efficiency, and better future planning for carbon risk associated with burning coal for power.

Your voice is important.
You don’t have to be an expert.
Please consider speaking out next Monday.
