Florida Special Session – July 20
Tell Your Legislators to Put an
OffshoreDrilling Ban on
The BP Deepwater Horizon oil disaster has wreaked havoc on natural habitats, devastated local economies and focused national attention on the risks associated with our over-dependence on dirty energy.
Florida’s Governor Charlie Crist has convened a special session of the Florida Legislature on July 20 to address the issue of drilling in Florida’s coastal waters.Your legislators need to hear from you today:Make the ban on drilling in Florida’s coastal waters permanent.
The oil washing up on Florida’s white sand beaches is proof that offshore drilling should never be allowed in Florida’s coastal waters. State laws currently restrict drilling in Florida waters, however, the Legislature can undo the ban. This was almost done last year, at the request of big oil companies.
To protect Florida’s beaches now and for our children and grandchildren, the people of Florida need a chance to vote on an amendment banning nearshore drilling on November’s ballot.
Put the offshore drilling ban on the November ballot.
