SACE Demands Ash Hearing in Tennessee

parts/content-body.any.php

In June 2010 EPA published a proposed federal rule to regulate coal ash–the substance that ravaged Harriman, Tennessee after an impoundment storing the waste collapsed. The Kingston ash disaster was the impetus for the EPA proposal. However, on July 15, 2010, when EPA released a list of locations for public hearings on the proposed ash regulations, all of Tennessee was glaringly missing. The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy’s Executive Director, Dr. Stephen A. Smith, along with over 35 other groups and individuals from around the country, sent this letter to EPA, demanding that they hold a hearing in East Tennessee so that the voices of those impacted by the Kingston spill can be heard.
