On Coal River Screenings


This week, join the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy for special screenings of On Coal River, a new documentary from Asheville-based filmmakers Francine Cavanaugh and Adams Wood.This film poignantly demonstrates the destructive impacts of coal as seen through the eyes of a former coal miner and his neighbors in a small, West Virginia town in their David-and-Goliath struggle for the future of their valley.Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and partners at the Media Arts Project, WNC Alliance, and SouthWings will host 3 special screenings at the Fine Arts Theater, 36 Biltmore Avenue in Asheville: Thursday, Oct 21st, 7pm – a special fundraiser screening followed by an energy panel moderated by David Hurand (host of "Conversations" on WCQS) featuring co-directors Adams Wood and Francine Cavanaugh; Bo Webb, resident of Coal River Valley and featured in the film; Ulla Reeves, Regional Program Director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy; and Hartwell Carson, French Broad River Keeper with the WNC Alliance. Proceeds from this screening will benefit environmental programs at Marsh Fork Elementary School in West Virginia highlighted in the film.
