Join UCS: Plan to Avert the Energy-Water Coalition

The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) along with our partners, including the Georgia River Network and Southface, invite you to a presentation and discussion with the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS): Planning to Avert the Energy-Water Collision: A Closer Look at U.S. Power Plants’ Thirst for Freshwater Resources. This presentation and subsequent discussion will provide a briefing on a new, collaborative report from the Energy and Water in a Warming World (EW3) Initiative.

The report, Freshwater Use by U.S. Power Plants: Electricity’s Thirst for a Precious Resource, to be released on November 15, draws on new, highly relevant information and methodologies. It uses a novel compilation of the water use characteristics of virtually every power generator in the country and new approaches to conservatively estimate the water-supply impacts of power plant cooling and illustrate stress related to high water temperatures. With these tools, the EW3 Initiative characterizes the waterstress impacts of power plant water use in the more than 2000 watersheds across the country for 2008.

UCS report co-author John Rogers will present. Food and refreshments provided.
