“Ripe for Retirement” Lunch with UCS
Please join the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and Greenlaw for lunch with Jeff Deyette, Senior Analyst with the Union of Concerned Scientists, and co-author of the report "Ripe for Retirement: the Case for Closing America’s Costliest Coal Plants." The report uses an economic test to identify coal-fired generators that would be more cost-effective to retire than to upgrade with modern pollution controls. It finds that Georgia has more “ripe for retirement” generation capacity than any other state, and Southern Company, parent of Georgia Power, has more than any other utility. Many, but not all, of the generators identified in the report are currently proposed for retirement, pending approval by the Georgia Public Service Commission, as part of Georgia Power’s 2013 Integrated Resource Plan.
Please join us for this opportunity to learn more about the report’s findings and converse with one of the authors. RSVP by March 15 so that we can order a lunch for you.
