Alabama PSC Informal Review of Rate-Setting

The Public Service Commission will hold public proceedings regarding the operation and utilization of Rate RSE (Rate Stabilization and Equalization) of Alabama Power Company. The PSC has used this formula to determine rates for Alabama Power customers instead of holding rate case hearings since 1983. One of the commissioners recently proposed a formal review of this process and was voted down, but the PSC did agree to expedite “informal” review of the current process. See our blog on transparency issues at the Alabama PSC at the Alabama PSC for more background, and please plan to attend the meetings to show that Alabama Power customers want more input in how their rates are set. Part one of the meeting (Generation, Transmission and Distribution Overview) starts at 2pm and part two (Customer Service Overview) at 6pm, with open public comment period after the Customer Service Overview.
