FL PSC Special Hearing on Cancelling Levy Nuclear Project

The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is holding a special hearing to consider Duke Energy Florida’s (DEF) proposed settlement agreement regarding their recently cancelled Levy County nuclear reactor project (docket#130208). While it is good news that Duke is cancelling the highly risky and expensive Levy project, their customers, who have been paying for these reactors in advance for years due to anti-consumer state legislation, are still on the hook for millions of dollars more.

This hearing provides a rare opportunity for the public to engage directly with the PSC Commissioners to ask them to support the Levy cancellation and push for Florida’s big power companies to do more to advance low-cost, low-risk energy efficiency.

Plus, the hearing also gives FPL customers a chance to voice their concerns about FPL’s unwise pursuit of the proposed Turkey Point reactors given Duke’s Levy cancellation. If new nuclear is not good for Duke then it’s not good for FPL or any utility in Florida. Please join us in Tallahassee to ensure that they hear what ratepayers (you!) think.
