KNOXVILLE, TN///NEWS ADVISORY///The Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA) Board of Directors is expected to announce the retirement of additional coal-fired units in TVA’s service territory at tomorrow’s board meeting in Oxford, Mississippi.

Dr. Stephen A. Smith, executive director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, will be available in person or by phone to speak with the media following the meeting.

Dr. Smith is uniquely qualified to offer a perspective on TVA’s generation resources and future resource planning as he was recently named to TVA’s Regional Energy Resource Council, which serves as an official advisory body to TVA’s Board of Directors. SACE is also an active participant in TVA’s 2015 Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) process, and participated in the previous two Integrated Resource Plans produced by TVA. SACE believes that additional conversations on the future of TVA’s generation assets, including the coal units covered under tomorrow’s announcements, will be part of ongoing discussions in the IRP and the RERC.

To reach Dr. Smith by phone following the TVA board meeting, please contact the SACE media line at 865-235-1448.
