Hands Across the Sand 2015
On Saturday, May 16, communities all over the world will participate in the 6th annual international Hands Across the Sand day of action by gathering at their local beach or other treasured place and joining hands to “draw a line in the sand.” This line is a quick but powerful image that sends a strong message – we gather to say NO to offshore drilling and risky fossil fuels and YES to clean energy.
Dozens of communities throughout the coastal Southeast are hosting events this year and you are invited to join! You can find your local event at http://handsacrossthesand.org.
This year’s event is more relevant than ever since the federal government proposed in January to allow offshore drilling off the coast of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. This proposal came just a few months after the federal government’s decision to allow exploration for oil & gas off the Atlantic coast using highly detrimental seismic airgun surveys.
Stand with your community and your coast and join hands on Saturday, May 16!
