TDEC Informal Hearing on Modification to Proposed Kingston Coal Ash Landfill

The Kingston disaster was one of the largest environmental catastrophes in US history. Let's not wait for another like it to pass comprehensive coal ash regulations.

The Tennessee Valley Authority is seeking a new modification for its permit to operate a new coal ash landfill at the Kingston coal plant. TVA is siting the new landfill, which would store fly ash, bottom ash and gypsum as well as other coal combustion byproducts, over an area prone to sinkholes. In fact, significant sinkholes at the proposed landfill site caused a large collapse (or drop-out) during the excavation phase – forming a giant vortex. TVA revised its previously insufficient drop-out mitigation plan and will discuss changes to its plans during this informal hearing.

Come out to the hearing and tell TDEC to protect Kingston from further coal ash disasters by moving this landfill to a more secure and safe site. Make your voice heard!
