Attend a Public Meeting: Tell TVA to Clean Up Its Coal Ash Mess!

TVA Hosting Public Meetings on Closure Plans for the Kingston and Bull Run Coal Ash Impoundments

TVA is hosting a series of public meetings to hear concerns from residents around its plans to “close” toxic coal ash impoundments (also called coal ash ponds) at its coal plants. In the greater Knoxville area, the Bull Run and Kingston plants together have the capacity to store at least 5 billion gallons of coal ash waste. Much of the coal ash at both plants is currently stored in unlined pits and ponds dangerously close to our rivers and lakes — threatening our communities and our environment. Instead of removing the toxic coal ash at both power plants, TVA is currently proposing merely to put a synthetic liner on top of the ash and leave it where it is… forever.

TVA’s plans are irresponsible and downright dangerous. That’s why SACE is inviting you to attend one or both of TVA’s public meetings in your area (details below). We’ll be there explaining why TVA should do what the utilities in the Carolinas are already doing: remove the ash to safe, lined storage away from our rivers and waterways. Will you join us?
