Today, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) thanks the Georgia Public Service Commission for its approval of the Joint Recommendation for the Renewable Cost Benefit (RCB) Framework. This framework will be utilized in the implementation of Georgia Power Company’s Renewable Energy Development Initiative (“REDI”). This program was approved as part of their 2016 Integrated Resource Plan earlier this year and represents the largest increase in renewable energy ever in Georgia, adding 1600 new MW of new renewable energy in Georgia.

SACE urged the Commission over the past several years and throughout Georgia Power’s Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) process for a consistent methodology for evaluating the costs and benefits of renewable energy. We offered numerous recommendations for improvements to the RCB Framework and we believe that the Joint Recommendation is a positive step forward in addressing those concerns and providing benefits to Georgia Power customers and renewable energy developers.

We appreciate the hard work and progress between Georgia Power Company and the Commission Staff in developing this agreement and we look forward to continuing involvement through the implementation process.
