Energy Policy Research Associate
The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy is seeking an outcome-oriented analyst and advocate to focus on energy efficiency and related issues in the Southeast. The ideal candidate will offer knowledge and experience from one or more of the following areas: industrial and commercial energy management, utility system resource planning, energy efficiency programs, or utility regulatory policy. However, candidates with an aptitude to develop knowledge in those areas will be considered.

Our expectations for the staff member are to independently develop an understanding of key issues and advocate for strategies to achieve significant increases in energy efficiency. Solid writing, public speaking, analytic and computer skills are necessary; experience with state agencies, decision-makers, media, and non-profit advocacy desired. Position will be based in Tennessee, Carolinas, Georgia, Florida, or Washington, DC, with a preference for North Carolina. LOCATION:  Northern Mississippi (University of Mississippi and Mississippi State Campuses)

SALARY: Part-time and Full-time Positions  Pay commensurate with experience

TERM:  Starts as soon as available

ABOUT SOUTHERN ALLIANCE FOR CLEAN ENERGY 
Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that promotes 
responsible energy choices that solve global warming problems and ensure clean, safe and 
healthy communities throughout the Southeast. In the fall of 2003, SACE launched a new initiative 
focusing on colleges and universities in the Southeast. Students across the nation have become increasingly active in bringing renewable energy, energy efficiency and strong 
climate policies to the campus community.  This program works closely with regional partner the 
Southern Energy Network and national partner the Energy Action Coalition. 



POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Northern Mississippi Campus Organizer is responsible for working within the Green Power University Outreach Program. Ideal candidate enjoys challenges. Candidate also has skills in supporting strategic campaigns and training students to make positive change to college campuses by promoting clean energy and making positive 
steps to deal with the climate change.  The campus organizer must being willing to work beyond his 
or her comfort zone and speak truth to power in a way that conveys the urgency of the issue.  

This
 organizer will actively encourage two Mississippi campuses, the University of Mississippi and Mississippi State, to support the TVA Green Power Switch program, and other local utility programs that take positive steps to promote renewable energy or become more energy efficient.
 


RESPONSIBILITIES: 

-Assist in the long-term campaign plan to continue the growth of renewable energy and 
energy efficiency campaigns at campuses that are currently engaged, and campuses that have 
significant interest
-Arrange for campus presentations for the education of students, faculty and administrators with 
regards to the importance of clean energy technologies.
-Work with student leaders to hold educational events, collaborate with relevant student 
organizations, and organize meetings with campus faculty and administration. 

-Organize resources and materials for campuses planning clean energy campaigns for the passage
 of green fees and the support of the TVA Green Power Switch program.

-Coordinate student work with ally organizations including: Energy Action, Southern Energy 
Network, Sierra Club, and Greenpeace. 
 


SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
-Excellent planning and project management skills;
-Experience working with students and youth;
-Knowledge of climate change, renewable energy and energy efficiency issues;

-Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills;
-Willingness and ability to travel

Internship Descriptions

Campus Clean Energy Campaign Intern
Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) is accepting applications for a University/ College Program Intern for placement in our Knoxville office. Potential intern responsibilities include:
  • Assisting staff with research and outreach to colleges and universities across the state/ region
  • Arranging campus presentations for the education of students, faculty, staff, and administrators with regards to the importance of clean energy technologies.
  • Assisting staff with outreach, follow-up, and materials development for our local biodiesel program
  • Participating in conference calls, list-serve and blog discussions
  • Publicizing the efforts of university initiatives within local and regional media.
Position hours:
* Hours per week: 10 -20
* Number of weeks: 12 -16

Solar Technology Outreach Intern
Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) is acceptingapplications for a Solar Technology Intern for placement in ourKnoxville office. The Intern will be responsible for: 
  • Working with the City of Knoxville's Solar America Cities project.
  • Helping organize the Tennessee Solar Building Tours 
  • Helping with our coalition work to develop Zero Energy Houses with Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)
  • Working on media promotion and technical seminars for the Generation Partners program.
Forcandidates with the desire to really learn the ins and outs of thesolar energy industry several advanced projects are available workingon state legislation and education. 

Position hours:
* 4-20 hours a week (flexible depending on the needs of the Intern)
* Must be willing to make a regular schedule and commitment to the work.

Energy / Environmental Intern
Southern Alliance for Clean Energy is accepting applications for an Energy / Environmental Intern to assist our High Risk Energy Choices program. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Researching and compiling documentation on water quantity and quality concerns related to existing and new power plants in the Southeast
• Researching issues related to new nuclear power plant proposals in the Southeast
• Researching energy efficiency and renewable energy opportunities as needed
• Preparing materials and presentations for organizational program areas
• Providing administrative assistance
• Working under the supervision of the High Risk Program Director (intern can be located in any SACE office, preference for Atlanta)

Primary activities will focus on collecting and compiling research information for the High Risk Energy Choices program and developing related educational materials.

Position available immediately. Position hours are flexible. Please note the internship is unpaid, but we can coordinate with professors or college/university for community credits if available.

Applicants should have excellent writing skills, strong computer skills including online/web experience, experience with research, demonstrate an ability to develop professional presentations (such as PowerPoint), and a commitment to health and environmental protection.
