Gift Options

The work of Southern Alliance for Clean Energy depends upon the generosity of individuals who share our vision for a cleaner energy future and healthier environment. In 2002, our audited expenses were $693,041, of which 81 percent went directly to provide programs that can create the change we want to occur. The remaining 19 percent provided essential support to the individuals implementing each program.

We gladly accept check and credit card donations. Also, monthly or quarterly payments or Employee Payroll Deduction Workplace Giving Campaigns are available giving options that enable donors to give more than they otherwise would be able and enables them to manage their finances over the course of the year.

If you are one of the many Americans that own securities, gifts of securities or appreciated assets are possible. This type of gift has added tax benefits that some donors find attractive. Also, if someone you know shares the vision of creating a clean energy future, honorariums and memorials are a thoughtful way to recognize that special person and give two gifts at once. Moreover, any individual has the opportunity to give through their will and estate plans. This is a simple way to benefit the cause and leave a lasting legacy.

Finally, donating needed items or in-kind contributions are very beneficial and another way for you to help us in a very important way.

Stock

More than 60 percent of Americans own securities. Consequently, more people are giving stocks, bonds and mutual funds to charities. By giving securities, donors can benefit from tax savings that may allow them to give more at no greater cost. Talk with your financial advisor, attorney or accountant to learn if this is a good choice for you. For safety and simplicity, we recommend that you make a direct transfer of securities to Southern Alliance for Clean Energy's account.

If you hold the certificates yourself and choose not to use a broker, mail the unendorsed stock certificates to Southern Alliance for Clean Energy. In a separate envelope, mail a signed stock power for each donated stock certificate. Be sure that the signatures on the stock power are identical to the name(s) as they appear on the certificates. Leave the stock power blank, except for the appropriate signature(s).

Please notify us of your intentions to make a stock gift, or if you would like more information, by sending an email to SACE Director of Development or call 828.254.6776.

Workplace Giving

It is possible to donate to Southern Alliance for Clean Energy through your workplace at over 100 workplaces in Tennessee and over 70 workplaces in Georgia.

Workplace giving is an easy way for many people to give. It allows employees to designate an amount to donate to SACE and/or other charitable organizations out of each paycheck that will be automatically removed each pay period. A small donation made each pay period can add up to really help us promote responsible energy choices that solve global warming problems and ensure clean, safe and healthy communities throughout the Southeast.

In Tennessee you can give to SACE through Community Shares of Tennessee.

In Georgia you can give to SACE through Earth Share of Georgia.

To see if your workplace is already connected with these campaigns, click on the above links to their websites. If your workplace is not yet involved, we are happy to work with you to get them signed up, so that you and your co-workers can have more giving options. Contact our Development Director, Rachel Grillo at 828.254.6776 or RGrillo@cleanenergy.org to get your workplace involved or if you have any questions.

Planned Gifts

Make a lasting legacy to the continuing efforts to create a clean energy future by including Southern Alliance for Clean Energy in your estate plans. You can continue your support of Southern Alliance for Clean Energy in your will by choosing to give:
  • A percentage of your estate;
  • A specific amount;
  • Specific property, such as stocks, bonds or real estate;
  • Part or all of the residual of your estate - what ever is left after all beneficiaries have received their bequests; or
  • A combination gift arrangement, such as a certain percentage plus the residual.
You may find that you can make a larger gift than you ever thought possible by giving "what's left" in your retirement account, pension plan or other retirement planning vehicle. This option allows you to provide for your family first, then charitable interests.

Life insurance policies that originally were obtained to protect mortgages that have been paid, or for educational plans that have been completed, make excellent charitable gifts. Alternatively, you may decide to assure a large gift by purchasing a new insurance policy. If you name Southern Alliance for Clean Energy as the irrevocable owner and beneficiary, the premiums are tax deductible.

Talk with your financial advisor, attorney or accountant to consider the best option for you.

If you have questions or would like to notify us of your charitable intentions, please email SACE Director of Development or call 828.254.6776.
