Energy efficiency is a proven low-cost, clean energy resource that reduces energy waste and carbon emissions while lowering customer bills. However, Southeastern utilities and regulators continue to underinvest and deprioritize it. As a result, the region lags behind the rest of the country in utility energy efficiency.
The “Energy Efficiency in the Southeast” sixth edition report developed by the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) examines the connection between energy efficiency and utility resource planning, as well as the status of federal investments in deploying energy efficiency in the region from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Additionally, the report details the slow rebound of utility energy efficiency programs from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Utility energy efficiency portfolios are ranked based on the reporting of energy saved in year 2023 as a percentage of the utility’s total amount of electricity sold to customers. Additional policy context is then added along with comparisons to state, regional, and national averages that highlight recent trends. The purpose of this report is to document current progress and trends at both utility and state levels, as well as identify policies and practices to drive continued energy efficiency in the Southeast.
Join report author and SACE’s Senior Energy Policy Manager Heather Pohnan, alongside Decarbonization Director Eddy Moore, and Executive Director Dr. Stephen A. Smith, for a presentation on the “Energy Efficiency in the Southeast” sixth edition report. Time will be reserved at the end of the presentation for questions. Webinar registrants will receive a recording of the webinar along with a link to the report and corresponding blog post.
