Gas pipeline companies are continuing their dangerously unsustainable pipeline expansion to fulfill the plans of electric utilities across the Southeast. But are utility customers paying for infrastructure that will ultimately allow pipeline companies to export more gas to foreign countries and increase our gas prices and electric bills?
On March 6, SACE hosted the “Highway to Export” Fossil Gas webinar to discuss how our Southeastern electric bills are funding a highway to export fossil gas and to further examine the relationship between increasing energy demands, fossil gas plants and pipelines, gas exports, and consumer electricity bills, as analyzed in SACE’s new paper, “Southeast Electric Bills Are Paying for a Highway to Export Gas.” Webinar speakers included SACE Senior Decarbonization Manager Shelley Robbins, SACE Research Director Maggie Shober, SACE Executive Director Dr. Stephen A. Smith, and Southern Environmental Law Center Senior Attorney Megan Gibson.
