Our Southeastern friends at Appalachian Voices recently launched a new website, the Energy Savings Action Center. We are excited about it because residents in eight southeastern states who want to save money and energy now have a new online resource where they can find information about home energy loan programs offered by their electric utilities, local businesses that conduct home improvements, and much more.
This is a great new tool, especially on the tail of the USDA announcing their new rural utility services energy efficiency and renewable energy loan program rules. Using the website, I took a look at what the utility that serves our office in Knoxville, the Knoxville Utilities Board, has to offer.
I learned that only four energy savings business are currently listed on the webpage that are in the KUB service area – so contractors should check out this page and make sure they get their name up on the site!
The website also tells you key facts about the utility you inquire about including whether your utility’s average household energy bill is higher or lower than the state average. KUB’s average household electricity consumption is about 100 kWh lower than the Tennessee state average – probably because SACE’s headquarters is in their service territory and helped lower the consumption with all of our office energy upgrades!
In addition to the map, and utility information, the website also provides information on the energy efficiency program that your utility offers.
