**CANCELED**What: State Representative Pricey Harrison will host a press conference with Mr. Peter Bradford, former Commissioner with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and former Chair of the Maine and New York Public Utility Commissions.
Mr. Bradford will be the featured speaker to discuss electric utility efforts to advance legislation that could result in North Carolina rate hikes to build new nuclear reactors in North Carolina.
Utilities in North Carolina have been pushing for expansion of legislation that would require customers and businesses to pay up front for certain costs associated with building new power plants, even if those plants never come online. If successful, the proposed legislation would shift substantial risk onto North Carolina businesses and families, with little regulatory oversight.Mr. Bradford is an adjunct law professor with expertise nationally and internationally on utility issues.
