Dr. Smith Will Discuss Plant Vogtle on PBS Tonight

Knoxville, Tenn. (February 15, 2012) — Tonight at approximately 6:20 p.m. EST Dr. Stephen A. Smith, executive director of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, will appear live on PBS NewsHour to discuss issues around the NRC’s recent decision to grant a combined operating license for Georgia Power’s Plant Vogtle nuclear plant. SACE believes that lessons learned from the Fukushima accident in Japan must be considered before Plant Vogtle is allowed to move forward. Tomorrow, SACE and other groups will file a legal challenge to the NRC’s decision to license Plant Vogtle.

The PBS segment will feature a point-counterpoint with Dr. Smith and a representative from either Southern Company or the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI).
