Friends of the Earth launched two television ads February 25, 2010 against the $54.5 billion in loan guarantees the Obama Administration has proposed to hand out for the construction of the first new nuclear reactors in the United States in thirty years. The 30-second television ads, “Family” and “Risk,” will run in South Carolina, where two new nuclear reactors are proposed to be built at the V.C. Summer plant — a site in the running for loan guarantees, and in Georgia, where the first of the Obama Administrations loan guarantees was awarded earlier in the month — $8.3 billion for the two proposed nuclear reactors at Plant Vogtle.
