Knoxville, Tenn. (March 22, 2013) – On Thursday, March 21, 2013, President Obama re-nominated respected energy expert and Georgia Institute of Technology professor Dr. Marilyn Brown for a second term on the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Board of Directors. SACE Executive Director, Dr. Stephen Smith, issued this statement regarding the announcement:

“We welcome the President’s renomination of Dr. Marilyn Brown to the TVA Board of Directors. TVA needs a fully functional board of highly-qualified individuals with diverse backgrounds as the agency makes critical decisions about how energy is produced and consumed in the Tennessee Valley while protecting the region’s natural resources. It is time for Senators Corker and Alexander to either allow the swift confirmation of Dr. Brown, or explain in detail to the people of the Tennessee Valley why this distinguished and highly-qualified woman should not continue to serve on the TVA Board. We reject petty politics and personality differences as legitimate reasons for blocking her confirmation.” # # # Founded in 1985, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy is a nonprofit organization that promotes responsible energy choices that create global warming solutions and ensure clean, safe, and healthy communities throughout the Southeast.
