The Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE) and Atlas Public Policy crunched numbers for the 2023 end-of-year state and regional updates linked above to layer the most current information onto our fourth annual “Transportation Electrification in the Southeast” report, published on September 6, 2023.

The September report benchmarks progress on transportation electrification from July 2022 through June 2023 in six states across the Southeast: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. The updated supplemental state and regional pages linked above capture updated data covering January through December, 2023. The year-long metrics dive deep into the substantial momentum in the Southeast across electric vehicle (EV) market indicators, including economic and workforce development, EV sales and charging infrastructure deployment, and government and electric utility funding.

The end-of-year 2023 data shows that the electric car, truck, and bus markets continue to grow rapidly across nearly all indicators, with the biggest EV stories from our region centering around manufacturing investments and jobs.

Georgia leads the region and the nation in both categories, with North Carolina moving to the #2 spot regionally ahead of #3 Tennessee and South Carolina at #4. These four Southeast states are all in the nation’s top eight EV manufacturing states, helping the Southeast secure nearly a third of the nation’s anticipated EV manufacturing jobs to date.
